Mary E. (Schenkel) Weir

Mary E. Weir, 110, of Fortville, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Community Hospital North surrounded by her family.  She was born February 16, 1909 in Fayette County, Indiana to Charles and Mary Catherine (Faber) Schenkel.  Mary worked in the cafeteria at old Ingalls school and retired after 23 years’ service.  She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Fortville and was very active in many areas at the church.  Mary taught Catechism, was involved in St. Ann’s Group and baked pies for the St. Thomas Festival and many other church activities.

Mary is survived by children David C. Weir of Fortville, Mary H. (Richard) Drake of Madison, James P. (Dixie) Weir of Fortville and Margaret A. “Peggy” Hunt of Fortville; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Paul “Pop” Weir, parents, 8 siblings, daughter-in-law Reba Weir and grandson David C. Weir II.

Mary’s family would like to thank her home care givers who have been with Mary for the last 6 years.  Their dedication and devotion to Mary is greatly appreciated by the family.

Friends may call on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 2 to 8 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville.  A Rosary service will be prayed at 7:30 pm Friday with a time of sharing to follow.    Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Fortville.  Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church 523 S.
