Maryann (Moore) Merritt, 76, of Indianapolis passed away May 14, 2008 at her home after a short illness. She was born August 27, 1931 in Troy, New York to the late Frederick D. and Hazael (Cline) Moore. Maryann attended the Emma Willard School in Troy and graduated from West Lafayette Senior High School. She received a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in 1953. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, the Gold Peppers and president of the campus YWCA. Maryann later received her Masters of Science from Butler University. She worked in the library at Creston Junior High School in Warren Township then taught language arts at Mt. Vernon Middle School from 1969 until her retirement in 1996. She had also worked as a sales associate at Lazarus from 1978 to 1988. She volunteered as a librarian at Holy Cross School in Indianapolis for several years after her retirement. Maryann is survived by children Virginia Merritt, M.D. of Newton Center, MA and son James V. "Jay" (wife Diane) Merritt, Jr. of Leland, NC; grandchildren: Nathaniel, Niles and Nicolas as well as close friends Patricia Kilgard and Linda Starnes. She was preceded in death by brother Charles Cline Moore.

Funeral Information

A celebration of Maryann's life will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 6:30 pm at Seals Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fortville. The family will receive friends for refreshments and reminiscing in the Seals Community Room following the Celebration of Life.
