Judith Elizabeth Collins Oden
69, of Fortville, Indiana, died August 10, 2009.
She was born on August 14, 1939 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to William and Sarah (Miller) Collins.

She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlantic Christian College, in Wilson, North Carolina. Judy retired from the Mt. Vernon School Corporation, after teaching third grade for 30 years at Mt. Comfort Elementary School.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ernest V. Oden; mother, Sarah M. Phifer; sister, Patricia Timberlake; children, Lee Ann Vriesman (Tom) and David M. Oden (Rachel) Grandchildren: Emily Vriesman, Zoë Vriesman, Caffrey Oden and Ella Oden and many nieces and nephews.

Judy was very active volunteering for the philanthropic sorority Psi Iota Xi and with the 1st United Methodist Church of Fortville. Judy’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved watching them in countless activities, which she did throughout her entire illness. She also enjoyed gardening, birds and Mt. Vernon High School sports.

Judy will be dearly missed, but her ever-present happiness and smile will forever be an inspiration to her friends and family.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2009 from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Seals Funeral Home 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040. Funeral services are Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the 1st United Methodist Church, 125 E. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery.
