Josephine Jackson House

Josephine Jackson House went to heaven on October 20, 2009 leaving behind her loving family members, nephew Steve (Marsha) Tilden; niece Krista Tilden; grandchildren Zachary and Johnathon (Michelle) House; and daughter-in-law Mitte House. Jo was preceded in death by her husband E.S. “Sam” House; son Jerry Keith House; and six brothers and sisters. Three other nieces also survive her: Maxine Pittman, Ellen Mueller, and Ruth Story. Known as “Aunt Jo” or “Grandma” to her family, Jo was born August 7, 1913 and celebrated her 96th birthday in August of this year. She was an inspiration to all those who knew her. One of Aunt Jo’s most recent adventures was dancing with her nephew, Steve, at her 70th college class reunion at Berea College this summer. Jo graduated from college and high school at Berea, KY. She was a fourth grade teacher in Elwood, IN for many years and was instrumental in helping family members and many students throughout her career. She related to all of her family and friends with compassion, support and humor. She retired with her husband Sam in Gainesville, FL and traveled widely. She returned to Indianapolis during the last four years of her life. Her family would like to thank all the caring staff members at Greentree at Fort Harrison and Nightingale Hospice service for her care during the last part of her life.
Funeral Information
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 12:00 PM at Kay’s Chapel, Hardinsburg, IN. A Celebration of Jo’s life will be held at a later date at Oaklandon Unitarian Universalist Church.
