Thelma R. Varnell

Thelma Ruth (Johnson) Varnell, 81, of Fortville passed away on October 29, 2009 at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis. She was born on December 5, 1927 in Gorham, IL to the late Noah and Minnie (Särensen) Johnson. She continued her work as a seamstress even after retiring from Westminster Village, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. Thelma attended Fortville Church of the Nazarene and loved to sew, garden, quilt and care for her family. She is survived by daughters: Ruth Hughes of Lawrence; Kathy (Patrick) Cairns of Fishers; and Sheryl (Frank) Sims of Ft. Wayne; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard E. “Doyle” Varnell, Jr.; daughter Mary Ellen Varnell; and sister Ruby Walker.
Funeral Information
Friends may call from 1-4 pm on Sunday Nov. 1, 2009 at Seals Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fortville. Funeral services will be held on Monday Nov. 2, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
