Gilbert J. Apple, 97, of Oaklandon, passed way Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in Noblesville. He was born July17, 1920 in Oaklandon, IN. Gilbert worked at Beverage Paper Co. with his father, had been a mechanic at Oaklandon Sales, a machinist at Odin Corp. and finally worked with his son David at Unfinished Furniture Co. until he was in his 80’s. He was a member of the Fortville Church of the Nazarene where he served on the church board. Gilbert and his late wife Irene were very involved in music ministry. He was the Fire Chief at the Oaklandon Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Gilbert is survived by children: Rev. Dennis (Beulah) Apple of Olathe, KS, Judy (Joe) McClure of Warren, MI, Beverly (Gary) Kubat of Ghanna, OH, Joe (Jean) Apple of Kalispell, MT, Michael (Andrea) Apple of Oaklandon, Joyce (Lowell) Ayers of Kokomo, David (Cathy) Apple of Oaklandon, Jeanette (Judy Reagan) Apple of Elbert, CO, Scott (Terry) Apple of Brownsburg and Missy (Jim Zoccola) Knotts of Fishers; 31 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and sister: Pauline Stott of Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene in 2009; siblings: four grandchildren: Denny Apple, Megan Riden, Heather Rose Apple and Addison Meyer; two brothers and two sisters.

 

Funeral Information

A Celebration of Gilbert’s life will take place on Saturday, October 7. 2017 at 1:00 pm at Fortville Church of the Nazarene, Fortville. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Old Oaklandon Cemetery.
