Steven P. Douglas, 74, of Shirley, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Henry County Hospital in New Castle. He was born November 22, 1943 in Chesterfield, IN to Dwight D. and Louise (Lory) Douglas. Steve was a 1962 graduate of Fortville High School and retired as a pipe insulator in 1996. He was a member of the Heat and Frost Insulators Local 18, enjoyed golfing and music. He played the mandolin, organ and piano, but his favorite instrument was the guitar. He was also an avid golfer. Steve was a U.S. Air Force veteran and Past Commander of the Fortville VFW Post 6904. He also served as the District Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Steve is survived by his wife Gail (Britton) Douglas, whom he married December 1, 1978; children: Holly (Patrick) Susong of Lebanon; Brian Douglas; Chad (Anny) Hicks of Wilkinson; grandchildren: Cameron Douglas, Brianna “Lou” Douglas, Mady “Sunshine” Hicks, Jacob “Fluffy” Susong, Ava “Curly Top” Susong, Tiffany “Goosebump” Hicks and Lyla “Dimples” Susong; sisters: Diana K. Alford of Fortville; Karen E. (Eddie) Clark of Fortville; Kathy L. (David) Cooke of Pendleton; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A funeral ceremony to celebrate Steve’s life will at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
