Bill Dugan, 95, passed away on March 24, 2026, after a brief illness. Bill was the youngest son of Georgia and Roy Dugan. He was born on May 20, 1930. He graduated from Huntingburg High School (now Southridge H.S.) where he was Senior Class President and Student Council President.
In 1947, he stepped onto the campus of Butler University as a freshman accounting major and into the Sigma Nu Fraternity house. He grew very close to his Sigma Nu brothers, and those friendships would last him a lifetime.
Following graduation, he was drafted into the Air Force during the Korean War and served as an auditing officer stateside in Cincinnati, OH. After his service, he married Joanne and they were married for 56 years. He was the owner of Sign Crafters, Inc. for over 45 years. He loved the sign business, and he loved his loyal employees who became family to him.
In the last 15 years of his life, Bill became very involved in the Butler basketball program. He traveled often with the team. Madison Square Gardens, Atlantis, Puerto Rico, Philly, were just a few of the many trips he had the pleasure of taking. He enjoyed supporting the team and Hinkle Fieldhouse. He loved his Butler family tremendously. In 2022, he added his name to the building of the Lacy School of Business. His name will live on at Dugan Hall for perpetuity. He was inducted into the Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame, class of 2025.
He was a wonderful grandfather ever present at the girls’ activities, volleyball games and musicals. They called him Pickles and he became Pickles to their friends as well.
He loved people, numbers, sports, traveling, dining out and learning something new every day. He was a great listener and friend to many. He was an enthusiastic reader preferring sports biographies, horse stories, and Zane Grey western novels.
He was a Kentucky Colonel, supporter of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, Sigma Nu Educational Foundation, Northminster Presbyterian Church, and Ovid Butler Society member.
Bill is survived by daughter, Candy, son-in-law, Neal Stock, granddaughters, Emily and Melanie, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, his parents, brothers Earl and Bob Dugan, and sister, Cece Wentz.
A small private family burial was held at Menden Cemetery. A Celebration of Bill’s life will be on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 5-8 p.m. at Bash 1235 Keystone Wy, Carmel, IN 46032 in Carmel, IN.
