Billy Gene Helton, 85, of Fortville, passed away on May 16, 2025. He was born on February 5, 1940, in Fortville to Frank Helton and Mary (Andis) Young.
Billy graduated from Fortville High School. He served in the National Guard and worked at Delco Remy. In the late 70s you may have seen Billy and his metal detector looking for collectibles around town. Billy worked for the Fortville Parks Department in the 90s. He was known as the “Unofficial Mayor of Fortville” and was often seen riding on his 3-wheel bicycles which he also was known for buying and repairing. He loved to go to garage sales, crock collecting, being outside, going out cruising with La Donna, and watching his cowboy movies. Billy was a family man and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Billy is survived by his son Stacey Gene Helton; grandchildren Stasha (Daniel) Robinson, Savannah (William) Anderson, Sierra Helton, and Satera Helton; 9 great-grandchildren Amerie, Cole, Maeven, Rayna, Gabrielle, Liam, Fallon, Holly, and Skylar; and sister Carol Kincade. He is preceded in death by his wife LaDonna (Grubbs) Helton; his parents Mary and Joe Young; brother Tom Helton; and grandson Kye Helton.
Friends may call at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040 on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A time of sharing will take place at 6:30 pm. Please consider sharing a condolence or memory on his Tribute Wall.
