Bobbie Ray Giddens

Bobbie Ray Giddens, 85, of Fortville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 7, 1941, in Chester, Georgia, to Roscoe and Gertrude (Mullis) Giddens.

Bobbie dedicated much of his life to service, honorably serving his country in the United States Army for 30 years before retiring. Following his military career, he continued his commitment to public service, working for 28 years with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.

A man of many interests, Bobbie enjoyed spending time fishing, reading, and traveling. He was an avid pool player and poker enthusiast who also appreciated firearms and country music. During his military service, he was stationed in Italy, where he developed a lasting appreciation for Italian culture and especially enjoyed listening to Italian folk music. Above all else, Bobbie treasured his family. His children, grandchildren, and the time he spent with them meant everything to him, and he took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of those he loved. Whether sharing stories of his travels, enjoying his favorite pastimes, or simply being surrounded by family, Bobbie found his greatest joy in the people closest to him.

Bobbie is survived by his daughter, Nicola Messersmith (Tim); his grandchildren, Nicholas McCauley and Abby Stone (Corbin); his great-grandchild, Tristan Messersmith; his former spouse, Dorothea Giddens; and his siblings, Larry Giddens (Judy), Ricky Giddens (Regina), and Deborah Floyd (Staley). 

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Giddens, his granddaughter, Jena Giddens, and his brother, Jerry Giddens.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. at Seals Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, with visitation from 2:00-3:00 P.M.
