Carl "Butch" Moos

Carl Junior Moos was larger than life. He was known by many names: Carl, Junior, Butch, Dad, Grandpa, Pepaw, Uncle Carl, The Gray Fox, and he was dubbed “Grandpa Grr” by the sister of his grandson’s hockey teammate due to his voluminous cheering at games. Everyone knew Carl.

On November 7th, 1946, Carl Junior Moos made his entrance into this world as the youngest of seven siblings. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He passed away December 10th, 2025, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH, surrounded by his family.

After high school, Carl graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor’s of Science, was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity, completed an American Electric Power System Management Program from The University of Michigan’s Graduate School of Business Administration (although he was an OSU fan), and he was a proud veteran of the United States Army until 1973, serving as a medic during the Vietnam War. Carl retired from his job as an accountant at AEP Ohio after over 30 years of service, and afterwards did some volunteer work helping people with their taxes.

Carl is survived by his children: Mitch (Mindy) Moos, and Jon (Heather Cook) Moos, his grandchildren, Emma Moos and Evan Moos, and step-grandchild Liam Vincent. He is also survived by his siblings: Barbara Silvey and Judy Tubbs as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. Moos and Nora Moos, as well as his siblings Harold (Peggy) Moos, William Moos, Anna Marie (Jerry) Literal, Philip (Doris) Moos, brothers-in-law Jim Silvey and Jim Tubbs.

Carl’s favorite activities were riding his motorcycle, named The Red Fox, through all 50 states Hawaii was his favorite). He dressed as Santa for all the family Christmas gatherings. He loved playing online poker (not for money). He never missed a chance to cheer for his grandson at hockey games, and when he was younger he was an avid skier. Carl was known for his humor, outgoing personality, and heart that was even bigger than his jokes. He would have, and literally did, do anything for his family. He loved his neighbors, family, friends, best friends Sam and Joan, and he had a special connection with all of the people he met along his motorcycle adventures. Carl was very protective of his sisters and he loved and cared for his community. One of his greatest honors was walking his beloved niece Alli down the aisle. Weddings were his favorite; he loved to dance.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat Street Fortville, IN 46040.  A private family service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis.

The family would like to invite friends and family to Daniels Vineyard 9061 N 700 W, McCordsville, IN 46055 on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm to celebrate Carl’s life.
