Celia "Sally" (Martinez) Borowicz Obituary

Celia (Sally) Borowicz (1954 - 2025) was born in Brownsville, Texas to Filiberto and Flora (Mata) Martinez.
She went to our Lord, surrounded by her family on October 27th, 2025.
From a young age, Celia traveled with her family spending most of her youth in Texas and Michigan. She
attended Central Michigan University, a decision she based on the fact that she didn’t get lost when visiting
the campus, contrary to her experience at Michigan State. This fateful decision, to be a Chippewa rather
than a Trojan, put her on the trajectory for a life she never expected.
While looking for a class to fill her schedule, an ROTC instructor convinced her to give ROTC a try. This is
where she met her future husband, Ernest. She married Ernest in 1975 and in 1976, their first child was
born.
For the next 20 years, Celia and Ernest travelled in the military. They lived in Germany, North Carolina,
Indiana, Ohio, and Panama having children in each location, eventually 8 in total.
She enjoyed cheering for and watching them participate in sports, theater, and band events. She was a
constant guardian of her family and supported them in any way possible.
Celia volunteered and worked at Mt. Comfort Elementary and Mount Vernon Middle School. She enjoyed
being visited and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beloved dogs.
She was a parishioner of St. Thomas in Fortville, and active in the rosary group.
Celia is survived by her husband Ernest, children and spouses; Anthony (Jackie), Paul (Jodi), Charles
(Trisha), Alex (Jessica), Sylvia, Sara (Neriberto), Andrew (Danielle); and Samantha (Jesse); 22
Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who have become family.
She is also survived by siblings Maria, Josefina, and Jose Martinez.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Filiberto, Eugene, and Ramon Martinez
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday November 4, 2025 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Fortville, IN. Burial will be at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN at 1:00pm on Wednesday November 5, 2025.
