Charles Whelchel

Charles Clinton Whelchel, 98, of Fortville, passed away on May 15, 2025. He was born on November 10, 1926, in Fishers, Indiana to Cord and Ethel (Small) Whelchel.

Charles was a graduate of Fortville High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Charles was a farmer, and he also worked at the Fortville Hardware Store. He was a Boy Scouts Leader and was a past-President and coached Fortville Little League. He enjoyed baseball, softball, fishing, gardening, and watching sports. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his sons Denney (Nancy) Whelchel and David (Michele) Whelchel; grandchildren Ashley (Shaun Privett) Whelchel, Stacey (Keith) Wixson, and Chelbey (Josh) Dirr; great-grandchildren Maddi, Nora, Wyatt, Kinley, Charlie, Tate, Hazel, and Paisley; sister Betty Meacham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his wife Alberta (Denney) Whelchel; brothers Lester Whelchel and Floyd Whelchel; and sister Myrtle Meachum.

A funeral service for Charles will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat St., Fortville, IN 46040. Friends may call at the funeral home before the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery.
