Charles Clinton Whelchel, 98, of Fortville, passed away on May 15, 2025. He was born on November 10, 1926, in Fishers, Indiana to Cord and Ethel (Small) Whelchel.

Charles was a graduate of Fortville High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Charles was a farmer, and he also worked at the Fortville Hardware Store. He was a Boy Scouts Leader and was a past-President and coached Fortville Little League. He enjoyed baseball, softball, fishing, gardening, and watching sports. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his sons Denney (Nancy) Whelchel and David (Michele) Whelchel; grandchildren Ashley (Shaun Privett) Whelchel, Stacey (Keith) Wixson, and Chelbey (Josh) Dirr; great-grandchildren Maddi, Nora, Wyatt, Kinley, Charlie, Tate, Hazel, and Paisley; sister Betty Meacham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his wife Alberta (Denney) Whelchel; brothers Lester Whelchel and Floyd Whelchel; and sister Myrtle Meachum.

A funeral service for Charles will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat St., Fortville, IN 46040. Friends may call at the funeral home before the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery. Please join us after the gravesite services for a celebration for Charlie at School House 7 Café, 12125 Cyntheanne Rd., Fishers IN 46037, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Please consider making donations to the Hamilton County 4-H or the Hamilton County Humane Society.
