Edward Wendell Gable, 84, of Fortville, passed away at his home on Friday, July 21, 2023. He was born December 6, 1938, in Hartford City, IN to Edward A. and Mary Pauline (Williams) Gable. Wendell is a 1956 graduate of the old Fortville High School and retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 30 years’ service. He loved to hunt pheasants with his favorite dogs Megan, Mindy and Annie. He also liked to fish, garden and do yard work. Wendell was sometimes a “Grump” and was sometimes called “Red Fred” when extra Grumpy. He was a big Chicago Blackhawks fan.
Wendell served in the Army National Guard and was also a 50 plus year member of the Fortville F & AM Lodge No. 207, a member of Pheasant Forever and the National Rifle Association.
Wendell is survived by wife Judy (Clark) Gable whom he married May 17, 1964, sons: Todd (Francy) Gable and Derek (Melanie) Gable, grandchildren: Eddie (Morgan) Gable, Blake (Stephani) Gable, Jake (Kirstin Caudell) Gable and Brooklyn Gable; 6 great-grandchildren, sister Connie Keerns, brother Kip (Carol) Gable as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Kelsey Gable.
A funeral to celebrate Wendell’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
