James Eugene Silvey

James Eugene “Jim” Silvey, 87, of Lawrence passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on November 2, 1935, in Indianapolis to Ernest G. and Bonnita M. (Rushton) Silvey. Jim was a 1953 graduate of Lawrence Central High School and served as a Medic in the United States Army.

Jim was co-founder of Pendleton-based V&S Transport and Silvan Trucking. He was a lifelong member of Outlook Christian Church and, as a young man, participated in FFA and 4H. Jim loved caring for his team of Belgian horses and was devoted to his enormous annual vegetable garden. He was passionate about his community and was involved with the Lawrence Township and Marion County Republican Clubs and served as a member of the Lawrence Zoning Appeals Board. Jim was a defender of keeping drugs out of our schools and actively promoted the Lawrence Crime Watch program; his contributions earned him several recognition awards from the community. He always put others before himself.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years Barbara Lee (Moos) Silvey whom he married August 5, 1956. He is also survived by his children Jeffrey E. Silvey, J. Michael (Lynn) Silvey, and Sandra K. (Brook See) Silvey; grandchildren Elizabeth Silvey, Eleanor Silvey, Brandon Silvey, J.D. Silvey, Curtis Silvey, Jessica Shevlot, Kelsey Allee, and Faith Silvey; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 5 – 8pm and Saturday, November 4 from 10  – 11am at Outlook Christian Church, 6531 N 600W, McCordsville, IN 46055. A Funeral Service will be held for Jim on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00am at Outlook Christian Church with burial and military honors to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
