Janet G. (Swoverland) Andrews

Janet “Mamaw Jan” Andrews a beloved wife, mother and grandmother peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023. She was born April 7, 1936, in Indianapolis to Harrold C. and Harriett (Hodge) Swoverland.

Jan graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1954 and was the very first homecoming queen at Lawrence Central. After graduation Jan worked at Western Electric for several years and then went on to work as a waitress at the Eastway Inn in Indianapolis for many years.

Jan moved from Lawrence to Fortville in 1970 and married Tom Andrews in 1972. They both enjoyed training and caring for racehorses. Jan also ran the Broadway Diner in Fortville for many years. While there she made many friends and was loved throughout the community. She enjoyed dancing, singing, IU basketball and all things horses. Jan also enjoyed spending time outside with her favorite four-legged friend Apollo.

Jan is survived by her daughters: Dianna (Mike) Weaver and Denise (Alan) Head; grandchildren: Joanna (Damon) Smith, Jennifer Crouse, Heath Head and Alison (Lonny) Burton. She had many great grandkids and great-great grandkids.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mamaw’s life on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 4 to 6 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A memorial service will begin at 6:00 pm at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Jesse Flood. Burial of Jan’s cremated remains will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Jan’s name be made to The Dementia Society of America P.O. Box 600 Doylestown, PA 18901.
