Janet Carol Lain

Janet Carol Lain, age 78 passed away on June 2, 2023, at Westminster North Health Care Center. She was born on September 18, 1944, in Anderson, IN and was the daughter of Dayton and Treva (Ellis) Lain.  Janet grew up on the family farm in Hancock County and graduated with the Class of 1962 from Vernon Township High School, Fortville, IN.  She received her BA degree in Teaching at Ball State University.  Janet was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.  After her student teaching at Lawrence Central HS. Janet changed her career direction and became a Flight Attendant for United Airlines.  After a short time at United Janet returned to teaching at Lawrence Central H. S. She taught English for three years and worked part time at L.S Ayres in the cosmetics department. Travel was her main passion and she interviewed and qualified as a Flight Attendant for Pan American Airlines.  Janet and her class had the privilege of being the first Flight Attendants on the new Boeing 747 aircraft.  Janet flew for over 13 years flying all over the world. Her final position at PanAm was teaching the Flight Attendant School in Hawaii.   Upon leaving PanAm she began another career at Abney & Assoc, a performance management training company, as an Administrative Assistant. She later moved to Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley as an Administrative Assistant for one of their Vice Presidents.  She retired from Sun Microsystems in 2001. Janet was an avid reader.  She lived briefly in Miami and Los Angeles but fell in love with San Francisco and spent most of her life there prior to moving back to Indiana in 2020.

Janet is survived by her brothers Donald D. (Arlana) Lain of Indianapolis and Gary L. (Daneisa) Lain of McCordsville; stepbrothers Paul Wyatt and Ronnie (Marty) Wyatt; stepsister Barbara Paugh; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

No formal services will be held. The burial will be at Gravel Lawn Cemetery with her immediate family. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Janet’s Life on June 15, 2023, from 4 to 7 pm at the Fortville Christian Church, 9450 N 200 W, Fortville, IN  46040.
