Jean Shirley Townsend, 95, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021, at her home with her husband by her side. She was born August 1, 1926, in Fulton County, Ohio to George B. and Verena O. (Leu) Barnes.
Shirley enjoyed reading and teaching in public and private schools. She retired as a telephone operator for U.S. West. Shirley received her bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University in Christian Education. She married the love of her life Clarence on May 27, 1949 and enjoyed over 72 years of marriage. Her faith and love for Jesus Christ was paramount in her life from childhood. It was this faith that gave her and her family peace and joy as her time on earth came to an end because they knew she was going to her eternal home in Heaven.
Her family was her world and she loved each of them dearly.
Shirley is survived by her husband Clarence H. Townsend, children: Tom (Connie) Townsend, Terry (Doreen) Townsend, Tonia (Bruce) Walkup and Todd (Kristine) Townsend; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty Miller.
Family and friends may call on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Geist Community Church 6697 West 900 North McCordsville, IN 46055. Beginning at 6:00 pm the family requests that you join them for prayers and Scripture reading. A graveside committal service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11:00 am at Archbold Cemetery, Archbold, Ohio.
