Joe A. Lawrence

Joe A. Lawrence, 90, of Fortville, passed away on August 8, 2026. He was born in Amos, Kentucky, to Louis and Blanche (Law) Lawrence, one of nine children.

Joe farmed for many years and later owned and operated a Standard Service station in Greenfield alongside three of his brothers from 1957–1972. In 1972, he began driving for Irving Materials, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 1997.

During his retirement, Joe wintered in Okeechobee, Florida, where he enjoyed spending his days fishing — a pastime he loved.

In 1957, Joe married his first wife, Patty, and together they shared 56 years of marriage until her passing in 2013. He was also preceded in death by his son, Monte Lawrence; his parents; and his siblings: Travis Lawrence, James Lawrence, Maureen Johnston, Sue Walton, Lewis Lawrence, Glen Lawrence, and Caleb Lawrence.

Joe is survived by his second wife, Betty (Conner) Lawrence, whom he married in 2021; his children, Marc Lawrence, Michele Anderson (Greg), and Matthew Lawrence (Dolores); his grandson, Achilles Lawrence; his sister, Patricia White (Chuck); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 P.M. at Seals Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 13, at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Bro. Chad Harston officiating. Additional visitation will take place on Thursday from 12:00–1:00 P.M.

Burial will be in Gravel Lawn Cemetery.
