John R. Evelo, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully due to complications from dementia, Thursday January 23, 2020. He was born June 30, 1938 to Charles and Angela (Foradori) Evelo in Terre Haute, IN.
John was a retired Spanish teacher and former Chairman of the Foreign Language Department at Lawrence Central High School. During his tenure at Lawrence Central, John coached football and cross country, and developed the intramural basketball program. He was an avid bicyclist in his spare time. John was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Fortville.
John is survived by his wife of over 59 years Connie M. (Pulsford) Evelo; daughter, Therese (Luis) Sanchez and children, Jasmine and James; sons, Douglas (Kathleen) Evelo, and children John, James and Joe; and Christopher Evelo and children Morgan and Travis; siblings, Elizabeth, Susan and Joe. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Rose.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Fortville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately following at the church, beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Fishers.
