John R. Hendrix Obituary

John R. Hendrix, 85, of Pendleton, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at Rawlins House. He was born on May 24, 1940, in Greenfield, Indiana.


John proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated over 30 years of employment to Brookside Corporation in McCordsville, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.


A man of deep faith and service, John was a faithful, committed, and dependable member of North Christian Church in Markleville. He was actively involved in numerous church ministries and took great pride in serving as a dedicated caretaker of the church, always willing to help wherever needed. John was also deeply engaged in civic and fraternal organizations. He was a member of Anderson I.O.O.F. Lodge #131, where he served as a trustee, Canton I.O.O.F. Muncie #4, Hope Rebekah Lodge #114, Pendleton AMVETS Post #26, and Pendleton American Legion Post #117.


Beyond his many commitments, John had a gentle heart, especially for animals. He loved all animals, maintained a large aquarium, and spent countless hours feeding stray cats, birds, and squirrels, reflecting his compassionate and caring nature.


John will be remembered for his quiet dedication, generosity, and unwavering willingness to serve others. His life was marked by faith, service, and kindness, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.


John is survived by his sisters, Martha Johnston (Richard), Patti Carr (Steve), and Connie Bonness, as well as several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy L. (Scherer) Hendrix on September 8, 2011, and his parents.


Funeral services will be on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, with Pastor John Hackney officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in Gravel Lawn Cemetery.
