Kathie L. (Lake) Kerkhoff

Kathie L. Kerkhoff, 70, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 16, 2022, following a 7-year battle with cancer.

She was born on January 24, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN, to Horace and Lena (Hoke) Lake. Kathie was an English teacher, teaching at various schools in Frankton, Knox, Northeastern Wayne, Floyd Central, and finally retiring from Seymour in 2011. She was passionate about education and making her students successful. Kathie was a member of Indiana Teachers Retirement and a past member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. She crocheted blankets and donated clothing and hygiene items for Rebecca’s Mission. She loved crocheting and crafting, especially making handmade cards and wreaths. She had a lifelong love of reading and would have happily lived on a cruise ship if given the opportunity. Being a military wife was a great honor; she was named a Kentucky Colonel and honorary citizen of Louisville, KY, and was awarded the Molly Pitcher award.

Kathie is survived by her adoring husband of 45 years Dr./LTC (ret.) Randall M. Kerkhoff, whom she married forevermore on May 21, 1977, in Elwood, IN. She is also survived by her children Mark A. (LeAnn) Kerkhoff of Centerville, IN, Rebecca K. (Andrew) Moulton of McCordsville, IN, and Craig M. (Candas) Kerkhoff of Dallas, TX.; grandchildren Matthew, Nathan, Emma, Samantha, Kyle, Alexa, Kaitlin, Brooklyn, Evelyn, Brycelyn, and Jonathan; and her twin sister Connie S. (Drew) Herdman of the Isle of Man. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Roger Lake.

Friends may call on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 4 to 8 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville.  A Rosary service will be prayed at 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 10:30 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Fortville.  Burial will follow at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery in Frankfort, IN.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Online condolences may be shared at www.sealsfuneralhome.com.
