Leon H. Wilcox, 89, passed away on April 11, 2026, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton, Indiana. He was born on January 31, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Charles Kaniukahi Wilcox and Grace (Thomas) Wilcox.

Leon proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. During his military career, he served in four countries—Vietnam, Germany, Turkey, and Korea—and in 17 states. A decorated veteran, Leon was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Korea Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Expert Marksmanship Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, along with numerous letters of commendation and appreciation from commanders and staff officers.

Following his military service, Leon continued his career with the State of Indiana, working as an accountant at Stout Field for 25 years before retiring in 1999.

Leon remained deeply connected to his Chicago roots throughout his life. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and liked the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed bowling, listening to music from the 1950s, playing BINGO and cornhole, and faithfully playing the Hoosier Lottery each week—despite never winning.

A lifelong learner and observer of the world, Leon was an avid watcher of the news to stay informed about current events. He also enjoyed classic game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Above all, Leon treasured time spent with his family, delighting in games such as UNO, Connect Four, balloon toss, and Racko with his grandchildren and great‑grandchildren.

Leon was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mattie Wilcox, his son, Charles Kilani Wilcox, his parents, his sister, Marie, his brothers, William, Robert, and Harold, and his grandson, Jimmy Storts.

He is survived by his children, Debra (Dan), Marcia (Jim), Tom (Linda), Dawn (Jim), Richard, Tami, and Shannon (Dale); and his 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at Seals Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Friday, April 17, 2026.
