Michael Robert Gaul, 71 of Silver City, SD, formerly of Hawarden, IA, passed away on Friday October 11, 2024. He was born on February 20,1953, to the late Cyril and Eylene (Heeren) Gaul.
Michael was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran, having served his country proudly for 22 years. After his tenure in the Navy, he spent 18 years as a Special Education Teacher. He was a member of the American Legion and Freemasons.
Some of Michael’s hobbies included riding his motorcycle through the beautiful Black Hills, building and shooting weapons, playing cards, and collecting music. He owned over 1000 vinyl records, CD’s, and mixed tapes. Michael loved spending time with his family; always putting the needs of loved ones above his own. He was a giant of a man, but a teddy bear at heart. His presence always filled the room with laughter and smiles.
Michael is survived by his children Michael Robert (Leanne) Gaul, Jr. and Benjamin (Mellisa) Gaul; grandchildren Brandon, Samantha, Zachery, Jacob, Alexander, Isabella, Carson, Shelby, Armando III, Desiree, and Mackenzie; siblings David (Laura) Gaul, Diane (Bill) Lutgen, Susanne Doty, James (Mary) Gaul. His beloved cat, Callie. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Waterman.
In keeping with Michael’s wishes, a cremation service will take place and his remains will be laid to rest at the Black Hill National Cemetery in South Dakota at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.sealsfuneralhome.com .
