Michelle Sutton, 50, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, while at home.
She was born on March 3, 1970, in Urbana, Illinois, the daughter of Wilbur and Marsha (McVey) Sutton. Michelle graduated from Hamilton Southeastern in 1988. She then went on to join the Navy, where she completed 4 years of service and was stationed in Norfolk, VA on the USS Hunley. She attended Purdue University, where she received a degree in Communications, and was involved in the Epsilon Tau Sigma fraternity. She participated in the college program in Walt Disney World and received her Ducktorate. She joined the Peace Corps in 2006 and was stationed in the Dominican Republic, where she spent over 2 years loving, serving, and learning from the wonderful people there that became her second family. Michelle then worked in US Customs and Border Protection for over 10 years before her early retirement.
Michelle enjoyed traveling, hiking, biking, adventures, trying natural foods, exploring the outdoors, and creating. She always stood up for others and was a passionate advocate for peace and social justice issues. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and loved creating special memories with her nieces.
Michelle was a free spirit with an infectious smile and laugh, and a beautiful soul. She was positive, fun, kind, loving, encouraging, and a great mentor. To have known her was a blessing to many.
Survivors include her fiance, Chad Duran; father and mother, Wilbur and Marsha Sutton; sisters, Ellen Sutton and Catherine (Brian) Hatton; nieces, Natalie, Olivia, and Naomi Hatton, and uncle, aunts, and several cousins.
We will celebrate Michelle’s life with a memorial service held outdoors at the Sutton's home, 13422 Cumberland Road, Fishers, IN, on Monday, July 6th, 2020 at 7 pm. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 pm.
