Paul W. Hanson, 76, of Fortville, Indiana, passed away on January 24, 2022. He was born March 17, 1945, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Wilmer and Gladys (Groves) Hanson. Paul was raised in Hessville, Indiana and attended the Warren G. Harding Elementary School, Harding Junior High School, and Oliver P. Morton High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Taylor University and a Master of Arts in Education from Ball State. Paul was a teacher at Mt. Vernon High School for 35 years, where he taught U.S. Government, U.S. History, and World History and served as the Senior Class Sponsor for many years. Following his retirement, he worked as a janitor for Mt. Vernon Intermediate School and then as a Door Keeper for the Indiana State Senate for ten years.
Paul is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith (Marlatt), son-in-law Devon Cromer of Fort Wayne, and daughters Heather (Jeff) Boyle of Fishers, and Sarah (Dustin) Martin of Fortville; grandchildren Dalton and Dustin (Courtland) Cromer, Payton Hooten, Ellison, Gavin, Brooklyn, and Emerson Boyle; and his beloved pets Maggie and Barney. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Barbara Xan Cromer.
A memorial service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville, officiated by his niece, the Reverend Katie Kerr. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Paul’s final resting place will be at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
