Phyllis J. Kingen, 91, of McCordsville, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Rawlins House in Pendleton. She was born February 7, 1932, in Indianapolis, to Ralph and Juanita (Eisenhower) Miller.

Phyllis was a homemaker and helped with the family farm. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Greenfield where she was a member of the Mary Martha Guild. She participated in the Pioneer Village at the Indiana State Fair and received a lifetime pass to the State Fair. She was also involved in the Hancock County Pioneer Building and in 2023 the building was dedicated and renamed the Don and Phyllis Kingen Pioneer Building. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and planting trees. She was a past Girl Scout and 4H Leader.

Phyllis is survived by son Gary (Christy) Kingen of McCordsville; daughter Kathy (Dennis) Shoufler of Fortville; son-in-law Keith Harlow of Fortville; grandchildren Jessica (Daniel Fuss) Kingen, Becky (Joe) Kingen, Joel (Kelli) Kingen, Jacob (Stephanie) Kingen, Justin Shoufler, and Kyle (Lauren) Shoufler; 6 great-grandchildren; and niece Susie (Chris) Steele.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 1998, her daughter Linda Harlow in 2014, her parents and sister Eleanor “Tug” Waterman.

A funeral to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church, 200 W. McKenzie Road Greenfield, IN 46140. Friends may call on at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
