Rae Veda Blacketer Purvis, 73, of Fortville, Indiana passed away on March 17, 2022. She was born March 1, 1949, in Anderson, Indiana to Velma and Charles Blacketer. Veda, as she was known as in her earlier days, grew up in Ingalls, Indiana. She later moved to Florida where she went by Rae and met her husband, George Purvis. They were married on December 14, 1991.
Rae worked a variety of jobs including Head Start, Pest Control, Child Day Care, and as a waitress and bartender. In 2011 Rae and her childhood friend Diane Summerlot organized the Ingalls School reunion. It was quite the hit!
Rae is survived by her husband George Purvis; son Jeff Ezell; daughter Gwendylyn (Rena) Jones; grandchildren Amanda Terry, Ryan Hodge, Ashley Cook, and Katie Ezell; great-grandchildren Jesse, Lily, and Charlie; her sister Norma Wright; as well as her niece Tammy (Jeff Webster); nephew Tony Jones (Tom Johnson); and her pets Pookie, Sophie, and Zuzu. Rae had too many friends to mention both in Indiana and Florida. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6904 and American Legion Auxiliary Post 391 in Fortville, Indiana.
Cremation is being handled by Seals Funeral Home of Fortville, Indiana. A Celebration of LIfe will be conducted at a later date. Rae was a lover of the many animals she had in her life. Memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter.
