Raymond Arthur Pierce, 84, of Fortville, passed away peacefully at his home on December 5, 2024. He was born on April 4, 1940, in Independence Township, Pennsylvania to Hazlett and Lena (Shrontz) Pierce.
Raymond served in the United States Navy and served on the USS Enterprise (CVN 65), the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Fortville American Legion Post 391 and the Fortville VFW Post 6904. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1994. Raymond loved golfing, pitching horseshoes, and playing Carroms, but he most enjoyed time spent with his beloved wife and their family.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 60 years, R. Elaine (Hill) Pierce whom he married on October 10, 1964; their children Charles (Andrea) Pierce, Linda Goff, and Patti (Mike) Burk; grandchildren Stephanie Goff, Tyler (Allison) Goff, Samantha Burk, and Niki Burk; great-grandsons Maddux and Tripp; and his sister Elsie Mae (Ed) Gray, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Brian Goff; and his siblings Carrie Lee Reilly, Charles “Lucky” Pierce, and Hazlett “Dude” Pierce.
At Raymond’s request cremation services will take place followed by Military Graveside Services on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Chapel at Gravel Lawn Cemetery at 1:30 pm. This is open to the public to attend.
