Rex Hennis Obituary

Rex F. "Pap" Hennis, 69, of Ingalls, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021, in Fishers, IN.  He was born October 13, 1951, in Anderson, IN to Ralph “Bugs” and Doris M. (Leathers) Hennis.  Rex had worked at the Brookside Plant in McCordsville and later retired from UPS at Tractor Supply.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea during the Vietnam war.    He was a member of the Ingalls Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years, serving as Fire Chief for over 15 years.  He was also a Life Member of the Fortville VFW Post #6904, member of AmVets Post #26, Fortville American Legion Post #391, and the Fortville F & AM Lodge No. 207.

Rex enjoyed mowing his lawn or anyone else’s who needed it. He went to Falls Park in Pendleton every day to read his newspaper and people watch.  He influenced his grandsons and was known to do things in his own way in his own time.  It has been said that if you looked up Grumpy Old Man in the dictionary there would be a picture of Rex.

Rex is survived by daughter: Heather (John) Snyder Wardwell; grandsons: Michael (Katie) Snyder, Nicolas and Zachary Snyder; great granddaughter Elana Bell Snyder; sister: Bonnie Cogswell; brother: Pete (Tina) Hennis; aunt: Eldora Leathers; bonus grandchildren: Jonathan Wardwell and Sarah Wardwell; nieces Jennifer (Jason) Arms, and  Lisa (Richard) Fry Carlson; nephew: Bryan (Cindy) Cogswell, his beloved cat Holmie; several great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and too many friends and co-conspirators to list. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his best friend and cousin, Ronnie Everett.

A memorial service to celebrate Rex’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville.  Friends may call on Tuesday from 12:00 pm until the time of service.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
