Rex A. Mollenkopf, 71, of Pendleton, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 27, 1950, in Greenfield, Indiana to Vaughn and June (Shepherd) Mollenkopf. Rex worked in shipping and receiving for Farm Fans, Inc for 30 years and for Super Target for 10 years.
Rex is survived by his wife Shannon (Shaw) Mollenkopf, whom he married February 26, 1994; children, Paula (Dan) Elmore, Ryan (Stephanie) Mollenkopf, and Amanda Sharp; grandchildren, Michaela and Nicholas Elmore, Madelynn Sharp, Ryder, Jackson and Mackenzie Mollenkopf; great-granddaughter, Kinzley Newman; siblings, Jimmie (Teresa) Mollenkopf, Ricky (Brenda) Mollenkopf, and Peggy Packard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aunt Rosemary Hayse, and great grandson, Cayden Newman.
Rex was full of life and loved adventures of all types. As an avid outdoorsman he loved all things sports. His love of competition inspired him to pursue many activities ranging from fishing and hunting to cliff diving back in the day. He could swing a bat, catch a ball, steal a base, and spiral a football. His love of sports was exemplified through his passion for coaching and teaching youth. He enjoyed boating and car shows and took pride in owning several classic cars and motorcycles. His most prized possession was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was loved beyond measure.
Friends may call on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 2 to 6 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A funeral to celebrate Rex’s life will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 11:00 am with visitation from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 50 E. 91st Street Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
