Robert A. (Andy) McConnell

Robert A. (Andy) McConnell, 77, of Fortville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 12, 2026. He was born on July 9, 1949, in Indianapolis to Robert and Mary Lou (Lamme) McConnell.

Andy retired from Anderson Tool & Engineering after many years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of Real Community Church of God in Ingalls and was known for his unwavering faith in God.

Andy had a lifelong love of the outdoors and enjoyed many hobbies, especially rocketry. He was a self-taught engineer, builder, and mechanic with an incredible eye for detail. He had a gift for solving problems and could seemingly build or fix anything he set his mind to. One of his greatest joys was sharing what he knew. Whether through a detailed explanation, a lesson in the workshop, or one of his unforgettable stories, Andy loved teaching others and generously passed along his knowledge to family and friends.

In 1993, Andy married the love of his life, Malinda McConnell, who survives.  He is survived by his children, David McConnell (Jennifer), Brian Immel, Paul McConnell (Amy), Shaun McConnell (Emily), and Cynthia McConnell; grandchildren, Drew (Carolyn), Dustin, Darian (Lexus), Sunny, Colson, Ryan (Ariel), Branden (Hailey), Brianna (Blake), Brooklyn, Nolan, Caleb (Hannah), and Mackenzie (Mark); great-grandchildren, Greyson, Evalyn, Adley, Ainsley, Annalise, Allison, Autumn, Paige, Olivia, Elise, Noah, Danny, Tamara, and Ely; siblings, Mary Jo McConnell, Debbie Truitt (Gary), Bill McConnell (Michelle), and Jimmy McConnell (Lisa); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Tamara Carpenter.

A funeral service honoring Andy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Real Community Church of God, 528 N. Meridian Street, Ingalls, with Pastor Tyler Haley officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery.
