Ruth L. (Varnell) Hughes

Ruth L. Hughes, 75, of Pendleton, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born May 6, 1946, in Murphysboro, IL to Richard E. “Doyle” and Thelma R. (Johnson) Varnell.  Ruth attended Fortville High School, then completed her education in Bald Knob, Arkansas. She worked at various jobs throughout her lifetime.

Ruth is survived by her children Lynne (Rob) McCune, Rick Witcher and Christopher Hughes, 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and sisters Kathy (Patrick) Cairns, and Sheryl Sims as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 pm, until the service begins.  Burial will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville, IN.  Online condolences may be shared at www.sealsfuneralhome.com.
