Steven Michael Smith

Steven “Steve” Michael Smith, 39, from Indianapolis, IN, passed away on June 17, 2026.

Steve grew up in the Geist area of Indianapolis where he enjoyed friends and family and time on the lake. His smile lit up the room and his laugh was contagious. He used his sense of humor often, playing pranks on his sister, mother, and aunts. 

He attended Hamilton Southeastern Schools before attending Cathedral High School and graduating in 2005. While at Cathedral, he played football. Despite his size, his dedication and determination earned him a spot on the field for several games. After graduation, Steve attended the University of Dayton for a year and a half.

In 2007, he began working at Greeks Pizzeria, where he was a dedicated, dependable team member, eventually earning himself additional responsibility and a management role for multiple locations. Steve took a leap of faith into the CBD Industry where his endeavors took him to Colorado, later returning home and bringing his knowledge and experience to Indianapolis at Indy Extractions. Most recently, Steve worked at Teledyne-Flir, where he brought his laboratory and production experience to produce technology for the Military, Law Enforcement, and the US Government. Steve lived in Kokomo, IN, where he quickly immersed himself in the local restaurant industry and he would lend a hand on the line or on the Hawg Heaven food truck.

Steve was an exceptional man with a big heart and a soft spot for animals. His Husky, YaYa, and cat, Tieke, were loved beyond words. Steve had many friends in Indy and Kokomo and was always available to help a friend in need. In his down time, he enjoyed WWE wrestling, NASCAR, Indy Car, the Tennessee Titans, the Colts, and the Miami Hurricanes.  Steve was a passionate person, especially when talking about sports, politics, and world history. Many witnessed his colorful vocabulary, specifically when stuck behind a slow driver. If you were on the opposing side of an argument, he would debate you with confidence and intention, but love you at the end, regardless of who won (and it probably wasn’t you…).

He taught us to love deeply, laugh often, and be kind to all. His smile was infectious and he brought joy to so many. Though his time here was far too short, Steve’s impact is immeasurable.

Steve is the son of Michael and Jeanine, brother of Katherine (Cary), brother-in-law to Peter, and his favorite title, Uncle, to Mackenzie & Margaux. He also leaves behind his Aunts Kathy (Larry) Patrick, Karen (John) Travelstead, and Uncle Richard (Dee) Smith, cousins Hannah, Heather, & Hunter Smith, Allie & JD Solaro, along with a very long list of friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Seals Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, IN, with visitation from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.
