Velma J. (McCord) Thomas, 97 of McCordsville passed away Sunday November 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.  She was born on June 8, 1928, in McCordsville to the late Oscar and Jeanette (Day) McCord. She was a 1946 graduate of Mt. Comfort High School.

Velma was a homemaker, as well as a farm wife helping her husband, Wayne.  She was known as a good cook, who also enjoyed doing crafts, reading and doing puzzles of all types.  She was a lifelong member of Mt. Comfort Church. Velma was a charter member of the Biz-Z-B Homemakers Club, an over 75-year member of the Eden Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 101, and was awarded for her over 43 years of service in the Buck Creek Township Ladies Auxiliary. 

Velma is survived by her daughters Connie Flanagan, Carol (Pete) Lillyblade, and Cathy (Dan) Engleking; grandchildren Carrie (Rick) Griffin, Matt (Heather) Flanagan, Erin (Travis McElfresh) Cain, Jody (Ryan) Smith, Kyle Engleking, Adam (Hilary) Engleking, and Mark Engleking; great-grandchildren Morgan (Annie) Flanagan, Liam Flanagan, Madison Engleking, Alyssa Cain, Ryan Cain, Nieko Engleking, Grace Griffin, Wesley Engleking, Hunter Engleking, and Elodie Engleking; and great-great grandson Emmett Flanagan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Thomas on October 11, 1996, a brother, Jim Ed McCord and son-in-law Bill Flanagan.

Funeral services for Velma will be held on Friday November 21, 2025, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville beginning at 11:00a.m. Visitation for Velma will be held on Thursday November 20, 2025, from 4:00p.m. until 8: 00p.m, and on Friday from 10:00am until the time of the service.  Burial will follow the services at the McCordsville Cemetery.

 Memorial contributions in honor of Velma may be made to the Senior Services of Hancock County, 1870 Fields Blvd, Greenfield, IN 46140.
