Vera J. Ayers, 93, of McCordsville, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Westminster Village North. She was born June 20, 1926 in Madison County, IN to Philip L. and Gladys I. (McConnell) Reichenbach. Vera was a graduate of the old McCordsville High School, attended Indiana University and graduated from Methodist Hospital Nursing School. She retired from Navistar in 1982 after 23 years’ service.
Vera was an active member of the McCordsville United Methodist Church having played the piano and organ for worship services as well as leading the choir. She was a member of The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts #1627 and the Indiana Nurses Association.
Vera is survived by sons Kent L. Ayers of Indianapolis, IN and Randy F. (Tia Jah Wynne) Ayers of Indianapolis; 6 grandchildren: Noah (Allison), Maralee (Brandon) Johnson, Ramsey, Cade, Silas, and Shani, and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis “Kenny” Ayers, her parents and sister Ida Jane Reichenbach.
Due to the Governor’s Executive Order private family services will be held at McCordsville United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends through a drive-thru visitation from 10 am to 12 pm on April 21, 2020 at the McCordsville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The family will have a public memorial once the Governor's Executive Order has been lifted. Memorial contributions may be made to the McCordsville United Methodists Church or Happy Hollow Camp in Brown County, IN.
