William "Scott" Dodson, age 56, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 18, 2026, at his home in McCordsville, Indiana, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 16, 1969, in Amsterdam, New York, W. Scott spent most of his childhood being raised in Canajoharie, New York. He graduated from Canjoharie High School and was an alumnus of Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. He was a man of immense intelligence and passion, dedicating his professional life to the field of science as a brilliant Peptide Chemist. W. Scott took incredible pride in his work and earned the distinct honor of being published multiple times, including in the prestigious scientific journal, Nature. Beyond his professional achievements, he possessed a deep love for music, enjoyed watching movies, and was a dedicated fan of his favorite sports teams the Dallas Cowboys, the Boston Celtics, and the Boston Red Sox.
W. Scott’s greatest legacy is the family he leaves behind. He is survived by his beloved mother, Dorothy Russ; his dear wife, Amanda R. Dodson; his devoted children, Thea Sanford (Jimmy Sanford), Tabatha Monk (Mikhail Jefferson), Jasmine Dodson (Blake Snyder), and Emmitt Dodson (Simone Wasick); and his cherished grandchildren, Tj, Tristen, Tyten, Tinley, Temperence, JiVonni, JiAirè, Talen, and Violet. He is also survived by his siblings, Laurie, Sherwood, Richard, Ronald, C. Jack, Telly-Jo, and Duane, as well as a large, extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind his two dogs Sassy Sue and Baby Willy.
A celebration of W. Scott’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 24th, 2026, at Seals Funeral Home, located at 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, Indiana. Family and friends are invited to gather, remember, and honor the wonderful man that he was from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville following the funeral service.
